The Facts

Sex trafficking is the transfer, trade and possession of individuals for prostitution or other sexual exploitation. It is a horrific reality that continues to grow in the 21st century.  All over the world, women and children suffer daily sexual violations, slavery and torture at unfathomable measures.

Facts about Sex Trafficking in the 21st Century...

®The United Nations estimates that up to 4 million women and children are trafficked around the world for the purposes of forced prostitution, labor and other forms of exploitation every year.  Trafficking is estimated to be a $7 billion dollar annual business.

®The victims of trafficking are subject to gross human rights violations in order to break their will and induce submission. Common methods of breaking the will of a victim include repeated rape, torture, forced abortions, starvation, and threats of torturing or murdering family members.

®The widespread misconception that having sex with a virgin can cure HIV/AIDS has fueled an increased demand for child prostitutes

®Almost every country is involved in some form of trafficking activity, either as the country of destination, transit or origin.

®Traffickers recruit women and children through deceptive means including falsified employment advertisements for domestic workers, waitresses, and other work. Traffickers are often involved in highly sophisticated networks of organized crime and may be as close as a relative to the victim.

®Sex traffickers have repeatedly been tied to rings of corruption involving government officials, politicians, law enforcement agencies, military personnel, and judiciary officials. Victims are almost always isolated from any avenue of justice or aid.

A note from the founders-

Dear Friend,

Discovering facts like these affect our entire worldview.  What is the cause of all this horrific exploitation of precious women and children? Right now you probably feel a deep sense of sadness for these victims.  You might be struggling with the realization that these awful circumstances are an everyday reality to many.  And then you will ask the question, as we all have, “But can I really do anything about it? This problem seems too big – how much could one person do?”

On behalf of the many women and children that are currently being helped or could be helped in the future – Please do not allow the size of the problem to stop you from being a part of the solution!  One person CAN make the difference. I encourage you to find out more about taking a stand with The Life Project.

Warm Regards,

Reed and Holly Barton
